Michael Davies – Southern Tier Admirals

Michael Davies made an early impression at the 2012 Toronto Titans Early Bird Tournament.  Michael is a big thick powerful forward who uses his body well at both the offensive and defensive ends of the ice.  Not afraid to initiate physical contact and can crash and bang with the best of them at this age group.  While being physical is one thing, Davies also has a high offensive upside.  Constantly uses his speed to beat defenders both on the outside and up the middle.  Davies is a high energy player who is constantly on the puck and making an impact whenever he is on the ice.  Also mixes a laser of a shot with soft hands around the net scoring 6 goals in 6 games throughout the tournament.  If Davies continues to compete at this high level he can certainly expect to hear his name called early in the 2013 OHL Draft.

Interview

HP: This is Kevin Thacker from HockeyProspect.com with the Southern Tier Admirals forward #97 Michael Davies, Mike thanks for coming out.

MD: Yeah, no problem

HP: Could you describe your style of play?

MD: Sort of a Rick Nash style of play, a big forward who likes to hit and put the puck in the net, good defensive zone player gets the puck out along the boards and nice hard crisp passes.

HP: Great, are there any areas of your game you need to improve or worked on over the summer?

MD: Quicker starts and quicker feet but I really trained hard this summer hoping to improve these areas.

HP: You guys are in quite the tough division facing teams such as Oakville Rangers and Brampton 45’s, is there any particular player that stands out in your mind as being tough to play against, maybe an opposing defenseman or goalie?

MD: Yeah actually a goalie from the Niagara North, the team I played for last year.   Mike Naccarato, he’s a hard goalie to get it past because he gives you open areas but he takes them away and covers up really quickly.

HP: Fantastic, you mentioned earlier about your preparation this summer, could you speak on that a little bit more?

MD: Yeah, Mondays we would go to Laura Secord and work on lots of tires and cardio, Tuesdays we would run stairs and do reps of stairs, Wednesdays I would do a lot of yoga in order to prepare myself to have good flexibility for the season, Thursdays  was on ice work and Fridays we would have off, Saturdays we went to a place called Hydra Hill where we would run the mountains and everything.

HP: That’s awesome.  Now do you have any individual goals for the season?

MD: My first goal is always been my dream to make the NHL or OHL so my first goal would really be to go #1 in the draft, id like that, thats a big accomplishment if i could do that.  Just to be drafted anywhere the whole atmosphere of hockey, I just love being around it.

HP: Fantastic, Now any team goals for the season?

MD: Well I played on Niagara North last year so im a new player to the team but so far Southern Tier has been a really good program, we have a great coach in Scotty (Scott Barnes) but our overall team goal is to make it to the OHL Cup

HP: Perfect, thanks again for coming out Mike, best of luck in the season and well be following you all year

MD: Alright, thanks a lot.
