Southern Tier Admirals vs. Oakville Rangers Nov 29th, 2012

Southern Tier Admirals vs. Oakville Rangers (Minor Midget AAA regular Season)Prospects Breakdown:

STA # 57, D, Walters, Connor  Walters did a good job tonight of moving the puck up and out of the zone and making the simple plays. He was able to make some good breakout passes and was also rushing the puck up the ice and able to gain the offensive zone on the rush, but has to watch some of the neutral zone turnovers on puck mishandles. He also showed some nice acceleration and hitting in his own end.

STA # 88, RW, Sacco, Nick  Sacco was really engaged in this game and was making hits all over the ice. He had a few really big hits but needs to make sure he isn’t crossing the line and taking penalties. He showed some nice physicality on the fore check and was protecting the puck and able to take a hit to get it out of his own end. At times he was just throwing the puck across the middle in the offensive zone with his head down hoping for something to happen and needs to make sure he is looking where he is passing it. He was going hard to the net and following up the puck looking for rebounds as well, but needs to make sure on the fore-check he isn’t letting his man out of the zone too easily.

STA # 97, C, Davies, Michael  Davies has clear vision, skills and hockey sense but needs to pick up the tempo of his game more consistently to prepare for the next level. He showed some nice hands and moves and was very patient with the puck but at times overly patient and loses it by not moving it quick enough. He had some good passes and the ability to find lanes to rush the puck up the ice but also tries to force the play at times. He did a good job tonight of coming back to help on the back-check and getting his stick in lanes to tip pucks away and breakup chances, and also had a great breakaway opportunity in the third period but missed the net on his move. He was getting the puck in deep and then putting some good pressure on the fore-check and was showing some good puck protection and strength to draw a penalty late in the game.

STA # 10, RW, Fox, Spencer  Fox has some nice acceleration to his game, good hands, nice moves and some great speed. He was able to make some nice moves to get to the slow and was showing a nice element of aggression and physicality for a smaller player. He puts good pressure on the fore-check to rush the play and did a good job picking up the puck on a neutral zone turnover then gained the zone but tried to force the play through the opposition to a teammate and lost the puck.

OAK # 66, D, Spencer, Matt  Spencer showed some really good strength and puck protection and did a nice job of getting his stick in lanes to break up passes and plays. He knows how to create some room for himself and teammates with some little plays and showed some great moves to find lanes and gain the offensive zone with ease. He is a good skater and protects the puck well, and was communicating with teammates and clearing the puck on the penalty kill. He has to watch in his own end he’s not just throwing pucks around the boards when no one is there and just gives the opposition another opportunity on the attack.

OAK # 4, D, Henley, Troy  I really liked Henley’s defensive game tonight as he showed some good gap control and was forcing his man to the outside where he would use his stick and body to take the puck away. He showed some really good physicality and shot blocking as well in his own end and showed some nice patience with the puck. He made a really good move to create some space for the breakout and then made a nice pass up to a teammate. He can take a hit and make a play and has a nice strong shot from the point and was communicating with his teammates. At times in his own end he made some risky plays but they all seemed to work out for him.

OAK # 23, D, Capobianco, Kyle  Capobianco started the game with a real good rush up the ice, then made a great move to beat a defender and pass across the crease to a teammate for the team’s only goal of the game. He showed some great vision to find lanes and some real nice passing to move the puck up to teammates. He was willing to come down low to join the attack and did a nice job jumping up to join the rush and create some opportunities. He had a good game tonight and showed some good speed and puck protection and is clearly a very agile defenseman. He was making some good passes up the ice and was willing to come all the way down to the slot when he saw his opportunities, but needs to work on his shot from the point as it was pretty weak in this game.

OAK # 77, C, Barwell, Jesse A good skater who was finishing his hits on the fore-check and getting open and opening up for a pass in scoring position in the offensive zone. He protects the puck well and is able to get it in deep on the rush, and also holds it in the zone well and then can spot a teammate and make a nice cross-ice pass to create a scoring chance. He made a nice spin move deep in the offensive zone and then moved the puck across for another good chance and was showing some nice moves in the offensive end to create space and get some good shots off from the slot.

FINAL SCORE:1-1
