Navan Grads AAA v Pembroke Lumber Kings AAA
October 9, 2017
HEO AAA Regular Season

PEM #11 F Tomasini, Tyson (2018) – Tomasini is a skilled player with soft hands and high offensive potential. He has a quick first few steps and has the ability to separate himself from a defender using his speed and acceleration. He was an offensive force throughout the game even though he didn’t play on the top line or Powerplay unit. At one point on the Powerplay, he wheeled the puck around the net to open up space and took a hard wristshot on net, showing good decision making in the process to find the open lane and create a scoring opportunity. He exhibited good vision in the offensive zone to find his teammates with open space and is strong with the puck, positioning himself well to protect the puck and using his skill to keep control. In the second period, he showed off his skill, making a nice chip play into the zone and beating the defender wide. He carried the puck to the net once he broke free and made a no-look pass in front for Pembroke’s fourth goal of the game. In the third period, his speed showed when he was able to beat the defenceman to a loose puck for a breakaway. He did a good job of using his back leg to protect the puck and block a poke check and took the puck across the crease. He didn’t score but drew a penalty on the play by moving his feet and staying strong on the puck.

PEM #2 D Duhn, Jacob (2018) – Duhn is a big defenceman at the AAA level and played a lot of minutes for Pembroke. He is an above average skater but showed quick acceleration from the standing position to beat the opposition to loose pucks. He flashed a hard wristshot from the point in the second period and was good positionally throughout the game, often anticipating the play. In the third period, he picked off multiple passes in the neutral zone by anticipating and reading the play perfectly. He isn’t afraid to use his size and plays a physical style, throwing a big hit in the corner in the defensive end towards the end of the game.

NAV #61 F Marcellus, Mason (2018) – Marcellus is a smaller player but is quick and dodgy with his skating ability. He is a noticeably fast skater who made quick, agile movements throughout the game and showed off quick hands at one point where he dodged a hit and deked around another play up the ice along the sideboards. In the third period, he found a loose puck in the middle of a crowded play in front of the net and ripped a hard snapshot far-side for a Powerplay goal. He picked off multiple passes in the neutral zone on the penalty kill, making great defensive reads and showing an ability to anticipate the play. He flashed a lot of speed on the rush and demonstrated good puck protection abilities when he had the puck. He was aggressive throughout the game on the puck carrier, although it led to a penalty in the third period.

NAV #74 F Bush, Chazka (2018) – Bush plays a physical style and has a quick stride once in movement, but his acceleration is average. He showed off some offensive potential, flashing a hard, accurate wristshot in the second period and skating the puck through the neutral zone on the rush. I would have liked to see him skate harder on the backcheck since his physicality and hitting ability is to be desired, but his defensive awareness could use some work.
