Draft Track: Five players to watch for the 2014 NHL Draft

2014 NHL Draft

Robby Fabbri – LC – Guelph Storm (OHL) – 5’10″ 160

Robby Fabbri

We have seen a lot of Fabbri over the last two seasons and we look forward to watching him on what should be a pretty strong Guelph squad in 2013/2014.

Fabbri had a solid rookie season for the Storm after being selected 6th overall in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection from the 2012 OHL Cup Champion Mississauga Rebels. Fabbri is a strong skater and shows confidence carrying the puck through the neutral zone and into the offensive zone. Robby is exceptional in the face-off circle and wins the majority of draws earning the chance to take a number of key face-offs late in the playoffs. He went through sporadic scoring spurts over the course of the season but continued to work hard and make strong plays while adjusting to the OHL. He is very aggressive in going for the puck in the offensive zone and constantly wants to have the puck on his stick. Fabbri has a strong wrist shot and gets into good scoring positions coming off the wall on the cycle. He is also a good playmaker and shows great awareness and vision finding teammates with a variety of creative passes. He is a bit undersized but never backs down from opponents and appeared open to dropping the gloves on a number of occasions.

Robby was one of the best Storm forwards in the playoffs and did not look like a rookie in a number of the playoff games against Kitchener. He was constantly creating scoring chances and working hard to win puck possession in the offensive zone. He needs to work at adding some strength to his frame in the offseason. If he can work on building off his offensive output this season and bring some consistency to his scoring touch and get stronger, Fabbri could potentially hear his name called early on in the 2014 NHL Draft.
