    HockeyProspect.com 2013 NHL Draft Rankings

The latest HockeyProspect.com rankings have been released for the 2013 NHL Draft and they feature a mix of fast-climbing stars and some new entries to the list.

The top three prospects remain the same and all of them are off to a quick start this season.  Nathan MacKinnon (#1) has 4 goals & 4 assists in 5 games while his Halifax teammate, Jonathan Drouin (#10), leads the team with 3 goals & 7 assists.  Drouin made one of the biggest jumps in the rankings, moving up 10 spots.

Seth Jones (#2) made his WHL debut and then scored a goal for the winning team at the inaugural All-American Prospects Game.

Ottawa 67’s co-captain Sean Monahan (#3) has scored in each of his team’s four games to begin the season, recording 3 goals & 4 assists.

The biggest rise on the list belongs to Andre Burakowsky (#8), who moved up 13 spots and into the Top-10.

“He impressed us more than any player from Sweden when we saw him in the U17,” said Ryan Yessie, Head Scout for Hockey Prospect.  “He is equally dangerous passing and shooting the puck.  He has good size, skating and is a fairly complete prospect.”

Adam Erne (#6) is one of two members of the Quebec Remparts expected to be drafted in the first round of the 2013 NHL Draft.  Erne was the top scorer at the Ivan Hlinka Tournament in August, recording 5 goals and 2 assists.  He has 7 points in his first five games of the season.

Erne’s teammate, Anthony Duclair (#22), is also off to a great start this season.  He has 3 goals, 2 assists and a +8 rating in four games.

S.S. Marie defenceman Darnell Nurse (#18) is one of four players that are making their first appearance on the list.

“Nurse seems to have turned a corner. I watched him with the Soo last season and I was never blown away with his performance,” said Mark Edwards, HockeyProspect.com’s Director of Scouting. “More recently, he’s had very strong showings in back to back tournaments in the Czech Republic. I think Darnell is at his best when he plays a simple shut-down game.”

Eric Roy (#24) and goaltenders Zach Fucale (#23) & Spencer Martin (#27) join Nurse as players ranked for the first time.

Defenceman Steve Santini (#11) moved up four spots and is the top-ranked USHL player for the 2013 NHL Draft.  Earlier this year, he helped the U.S. team to a silver medal at the 2012 World Under-17 Challenge.  He recorded 1 goal, 1 assist & 18 penalty minutes in 6 games. Edwards is high on Santini, “He has played very well in all my viewings, I think he is a pretty well round prospect. He has size, he’s smart, moves the puck well, makes very few mistakes and does a good job supporting his partner.”

Gustav Possler (#30) is continuing his point-per-game pace from last season.  He has 4 goals & 2 assists in 6 games with MODO this season.

“Possler is a pure goal scorer, and has a deceptive release. He has the ability to find open areas in coverage that many players don’t have,” said Hockey Prospect scout Charles An.  “He still has some work to do in the defensive zone, but his offensive abilities cannot be ignored and can translate well in the NHL level.”

The other two players to make a significant jump in the ranking for the 2013 NHL Draft are Ryan Kujawinski (#21) & Bo Horvat (#25), who moved up 4 and 3 spots, respectively.

Kujawinski was recently named ‘OHL Player of the Week’ after scoring 2 goals & 3 assists in two games.
