CH #2 D, Bean, Jake (2016) Bean had a quiet game for the most part but was solid. He is a very efficient and controlled skater that uses his skating to make a great first pass. His head is up and he is always thinking and making plays. On numerous occasions he showed great instincts and the willingness to engage and activate into the rush. One thing that was very evident was his quick accurate release and the ability to get pucks through and on net. He has great composure with the puck and gets himself into good shooting positions. Will need to continue to work on his battle level and improve on his footspeed, especially his first couple steps.
CH #10 LW, Stukel, Jakob (2015) Had one goal when the game was out of reach for the other team. Stukel has great hands and the ability to make plays off the rush and on the power play. He is solid on his skates with good balance and creates offensive opportunities. His one glaring weakness in this game was his ability to compete away from the puck and willingness to play a 200 foot game. I saw on a couple of occasions where he got caught up ice and did not back check when the other team was attacking.
CH #11 C, Malenstyn, Beck (2016) Had a dominant game though it did not show on the scoreboard. He was competing and battling for lose pucks on every shift. Is a very strong and powerful skater that plays with an edge and is very physical making 3 huge hits in his first couple of shifts. The thing that caught my eye with this player is he was always first to the puck. He was strong in the corners and below the goal-line. He played in all situations and was also very effective on special teams especially on the PK.
CH #17 C, Stallard, Jordy (2016) Jordy finished the game with 2 goals and really capitalized on his chances. The first goal was a gift as the goalie mis-played the puck behind the net and it bounced into the slot where he was all alone. On the second goal his teammate stole the puck behind the net and Stallard was once again going hard to the net and scored with a wrist shot through traffic. He is a big skilled forward who loves to goto the net and was rewarded. He is very willing to engage in battles and used his size and speed numerous times to win possession for his team.
CH #24 LW, Twarynski, Carsen (2016) 1G, 1A: Carsen was a force all game long using his size and great skating ability to set the tone for this game. He is a fast agile skater who prides himself with being first to the puck. He was physical and won battles on both sides of the puck. In the second he was hard in on the forecheck and capitalized on a turnover feeding his teammate for an easy goal in the slot. He has composure and the ability to slow things down while maintaining a high battle and compete level. His willingness to the go to the tough areas and his 200foot game really made him stand out in this contest.
Calgary Dominated this game from start to finish. They were very relentless on the forecheck and were able to capitalize. All of the 2016 draft players had an impact. It was my first time watching Jake Bean live though he didnt impress. I found he took advantage of his top pairing minutes and playing on the first powerplay unit. He did not create much 5 on 5 and was really aided by playing with Team Canada Dman Travis Sanhiem. I am really looking forward to watching him more especially in the playoffs.
