HC Kometa Brno vs HC Ocelari Trinec, Czech U20 ExtraLiga, Sept.24, 2015
Final Score: BRN 4:1 TRN
TRN #27 RW Kofron, David (2017) – Best player in Trinec’s line up tonight. Displayed his puck creativity tonight with some timely placed passes that created two scoring opportunities. Was smart around the net tonight and positioned himself in good lanes, but teammates struggled to get some passes to him, especially on power play. Had a couple good shots on net tonight, off the rush and in zone. Was shooting accurately with a quick release. Needs a more power in shot though. Struggled with some mental mistakes tonight. Stepped off-side on the power play breakout with no pressure on him. Made a blind pass on the penalty kill after he carried the puck deep into Brno’s offensive zone – causing a quick transition and puck was back in Trinec’s end. However, he back checked hard all the way. Shifty hands and very strong on the puck, especially in the corner. He was slippery along the wall. Has a good stride – good extension and pushes off properly. But needs to get some power and more strength in his legs. Played on power play first and second unit as well as first penalty killing unit. Logged a lot of ice time tonight, especially in the third period – started showing signs of fatigue. Was on the ice for two goals tonight, but he was in good coverage on both. Good skill, but mentally needs to make more consistent good decisions.
TRN #9 RW Kaukic, Lukas (2016) – Not a great showing for Kaukic tonight. He has the work ethic and tries on every shift, but struggled in execution and decisions. Played on the power play and penalty kill second units tonight. Forechecks hard and stripped two defenceman of the puck tonight. However, after one possession he then turned the puck over as he struggled in his decision with what to do with it, and the puck was out of the offensive zone as quick as he had possession. Soft play along the wall and needs to work on having a better stride.
TRN #40 LW Roman, Milos (2018) – A late ’99 birth, Roman is an interesting prospect. At first glance his skating isn’t beautiful and when he get’s fatigued he hunches over too much rendering his stride useless. But, he is a smart player and sees the ice quite well. Played on a line with Kofron tonight and was good in the corners. Strong on the puck and has a solid frame for his age. Delivered a powerful, glass rattling hit on Brno defenceman Furch in the second period when Furch was skating the puck out from behind the net. I think Furch will feel that hit for at least a week. Smooth hands with the puck in tight places, but needs to work on skating with the puck at high speeds. Was also used a lot in the third period.
TRN #8 LW Stuchlik, Krystof (2016) – Despite a stride that relies on him pushing off from his heals, he is actually quick around the ice. Had a big hit in the third period, but wasn’t much to note about besides that. Has a weak and slender frame and looked afraid in some situations.
BRN #20 RW Havranek, Tomas (2016) – Had two assists tonight. One was a misplaced backhand shot in front the net that Filip Dvorak gobbled up behind the net and wrapped it around into an open net. The second was a second assist on a break out pass that lead to a rush and a weak shot that snuck through the goaltender. Havranek filled the role of a lunch pail, blue-collar player tonight. Was good in the corners, didn’t quite on loose pucks, and had two blocked shots tonight. But his skating is very questionable – it’s choppy and weak. He really needs to work on his skating if he wants to move up to a higher level.
BRN #9 RW Havlat, Robert (2016) – Used very sparingly tonight and spent most of the night in the middle of the bench. Was on the ice for the fourth goal late in the third period, but wasn’t a factor on it.
BRN #4 D Furch, Michal (2016) – Big physical presence on the ice – 6’3” frame. Played a lot tonight for being the youngest defenceman and showed some signs of high skill. Made a great stretch pass in the third that was fast, accurate and flat from goal line to far blue line. Got stuck out on a very long shift in the second because his forwards struggled with chipping pucks deep, but stayed on and let his D partner change. Kept working hard and didn’t show signs of fatigue – good conditioning. Made two smart, effective pinches in the offensive zone and didn’t caught out of a position. Needs to work on executing the simple pass more consistently. Took too long to make the decision with the puck three times tonight and one time he was plastered to the boards by Milos Roman. Has good positioning in front of the net but needs to get a little grittier. Strong on the puck in the corners and hard to knock off. His footwork isn’t a major hindrance at this level, but he will need to work on agility and speed to move up to a faster paced game. Footwork could also be from him adjusting to his large frame.
