The first two things we noticed about Matt Murphy this year is his excellent mobility and
composure on the ice. He has great lateral mobility and is much more smooth skating forward than backwards. He is able to use that mobility when he has the puck, and display good stick handling ability. We also like to see that he always has his head up looking for options. He excels at reading the play, both offensively and defensively. In his own zone Murphy needs to take advantage of his good frame and use it at the right moment to be more efficient. Offensively he needs to be more confident using his mobility to move the puck up the ice instead of just passing from his zone. He could also use his slap shot a little bit more. Murphy showed great two-way abilities this season and this could just be the start, as he is getting more confident and getting more ice time.
