OHL Trade Deadline: A few players who could be on the move

Trevor Carrick to Sudbury sounds like it’s really close to being done. Teams may give comfirmation in the A.M – Missy gets 3 picks and possibly two players, one for sure. We really like the player we were told Missy would get back (we will hold back name). Heard conflicting names on the 2nd player. As always, nothing is official until the paperwork is submitted.

We have been told that Sabres 5th rounder, Alex Lepkowski, is indeed heading to Oshawa. Barrie left him unprotected and Oshawa gets a big addition to their already LARGE back-end. OA deadline is NOON Thursday, so this one should be confirmed soon enough.

The OHL Trade deadline is this friday and a few trades have already been completed. Here are a few players who could still move this week and some guesses as to where they may end up. Although we have heard a few names of players dangled as trade bait to acquire these players, we won’t be listing their names here. We are only mentioning players who wouldn’t be shocked to see their names listed below. We have heard several other players who’s names have been offered around, but we have not confirmed the players are aware, so we won’t list them.

Trevor Carrick, Mississauga Steelheads – Thought he might go to Guelph in a package with Spencer Martin. Did the Hunter Garlent trade to Peterborough mess that up? A few weeks ago our best guess would have been Erie. Guelph has four (4) 2nd round picks to play with that they didn’t have on Monday. Expect the price will be high for Carrick.

#Update Wednesday 5pm: Sounds like Sudbury is working into the mix now.

Spencer Martin, Mississauga Steelheads – See Carrick above. Could still end up in Guelph. Petes would have interest.

Gemel Smith, Owen Sound Attack – An attractive player for the contenders. Sudbury or London could be where he lands. Updated 3Pm Wednesday- Traded to London for Platzer and Centorame

Nick Moutrey, Saginaw Spirit – A few teams have kicked the tires.

Ryan Kujawinski, Kingston Frontenacs – Much like Moutrey, some teams are kicking the tires.

Radek Faksa, Kitchener Rangers – Best guesses are London or possibly Oshawa. Won’t be shocked if he stays in Kitchener.

Ryan Hartman, Plymouth Whalers – A few sources mentioned Sudbury almost had him. We are not stating that as fact. He would be our number one target. Guessing the Whale wants a player who can help them stay in the playoffs if they trade him. At this point we wouldn’t be shocked if he stays in Plymouth.

Slater KoekKoek, Windsor Spitfires –  He was traded a month ago to Guelph, sort of. He’s still a Spitfire at this point and might remain there. Obviously the contenders would be interested. Like Carrick, he won’t come cheap.

Brady Vail, Windsor Spitfires – He would seem to be an obvious player to be on the move but we haven’t heard his name in trade talks for at least a month. For what it’s worth, we really like him. Nice playoff piece.

Cameron Brace, Belleville Bulls – Teams need an OA spot to get Brace. Heard his name every week leading up to trade to Bulls, have not heard it mentioned since.

We can’t recall a recent trade deadline where we heard less trade talk. Last season there was much more talk floating around. Prices are much higher this year with the Memorial Cup being hosted by the OHL.

As mentioned above, we have heard more players names being tossed around than listed above and of course we hear the rumoured players in return. In general though, it’s crickets out there right now.

Will Saginaw decide to sell? That would make things more interesting.
