September 20, 2013 – Plymouth Whalers at London Knights (OHL)
PLY #13 LW Dunda, Liam (2015) – In his OHL debut, Liam showed he wasn’t the least bit intimidated provided good strong physical play early in this game. While he was consistently physical he can get a little too high with his hits putting him at risk for unnecessary penalties. He was very good at frustrating opposing players.
PLY #20 RD Wesley, Josh (2014) – Josh’s play was very mixed tonight. He did a good job to force turnovers on several occasions in this game. However he also lost control of the puck a few times as well. He was initially not playing very tough in the slot allowing opposing players to screen the goaltender, but he played much more aggressive in this third period.
PLY #22 LW Mistele, Matt (2014) – Matt possesses a very hard shot but stuck mostly to the perimeter in tonight’s game. He also made a great pass to set up a chance but outside of a few moments he was fairly quiet tonight.
PLY #27 RD Rathgeb, Yannick (2014) – Puck play was a bit mixed tonight, he made a mistake on the power play resulting in the play going the other way. Later on in the game he made a few great plays at the offensive line ot keep the play going. He is willing to play physical and delivered a solid open ice hit. He got beat too easily a few times one on one and prefers to take the body in one on one situations whenever he can. He likes to jump up in the rush and tried to get involved offensively when the opportunities were there.
LON #7 RD Stewart, Owen (2014) – Owen had a difficult game. While he possesses good size he pulled up going into the corner. He was willing to hit after the fact, but needs to be willing to take the hit to make the play. He lost his positioning multiple times in the defensive zone. He also struggled with the puck in all three zones and in general with the pace of the game.
LON #88 RD Centorame, Santino (2014) – Santino opened the game playing very well but was called upon to play a ton of ice and his play declined throughout the game. He won a battle early drawing a penalty. He then went out and showed a quick and smart puck play on the power play. He struggled a little defensively giving too much space one on one and got beat by skilled players. He pulled up in a puck race to the corner avoiding contact.
LON #91 C Platzer, Kyle (Edmonton) – Kyle scored the opening/game winning goal with a hard shot top shelf. He also scored the second goal shooting from the left circle making it 2-0.
LON #93 RC Marner, Mitchell (2015) – Mitchell made a beautiful pass to set up London’s opening and game wining goal on the power play. He possesses great speed to lead the rush and continued to set up a few chances. All in all a solid OHL debut for Marner.
Scouts Notes: London did a very good job playing a solid 60 minute game slowly taking control of this game. Anthony Stolarz (Philadelphia) was solid when called upon and opened the season with a 3-0 shutout. In addition to the reports above, for Plymouth Francisco Vilardi (2014) displayed good speed and showed good puck possession skills. Alex Peters (2014) delivered a big hit late and had a very quiet game. For London Christian Dvorak (2014) showed a few flashes of his elusiveness with the puck. Aiden Jamieson (2014) possesses very good skating ability but got beat in one on one situations.
