Today was trade deadline day in the QMJHL and like every year, it was a busy one. Here’s a quick breakdown of everything that happened today:
It was finally made official but Charles Hudon is now a member of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. Hudon a 5th round pick of the Montreal Canadiens was traded from Chicoutimi for a 2015, 2016 & 2017 1st rd picks & 3rd pick in 2014. The 4th year forward is just coming back from Sweden where he represented Canada at the recent World Junior hockey championship.
St-Louis Blues 2nd rounder in last year NHL Draft, William Carrier will finish his season & possible QMJHL career with the Drummondville Voltigeurs. Carrier was acquired with Matthew Donnelly from Cape-Breton for Guillaume Gauthier & 1st round pick (2014) & 5th round pick (2015). Carrier will bring scoring and size to the Voltigeurs.
Yesterday, Drummondville also acquired Quebec Remparts defenseman Ryan Culkin for Francis Lambert-Lemay & 1st round pick (2014). Today we learned that the first round pick will go back to Drummondville at the draft for Nikolas Brouillard. Quebec is hoping to host the Memorial Cup next year and Brouillard will give them a big boost on the backend.
Rimouski added another weapon to their offense with Sebastien Sylvestre coming from Chicoutimi for Dominic Beauchemin & two 2nd round pick (2014 & 2015). Sylvestre is averaging over a point a game as an overager this season with the Sagueneens.
2014 NHL Draft prospect, Alexis Pepin, was traded from Charlottetown to Gatineau for Curtis Scale & 2014 first round pick. Pepin who had been struggling this season will be looking for a fresh start under Benoit Groulx in Gatineau.
Charlottetown also traded team Captain Jack Nevins & a 2014 4th round pick to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies for 1st, 3rd, 5th round pick in 2014 and Julien Avon. They also traded New York Rangers 4th rounder in 2013, Ryan Graves to Val d’Or for defensemen David Henley & Vladislav Lysenko.
Victoriaville added overager Jean-Francois Plante from Sherbrooke for a 2nd, 3rd & 7th round pick. Plante was having a career year with 33 goals in 41 games for his hometown Sherbrooke Phoenix.
Yesterday Sherbrooke traded veteran defenseman Dominic Talbot-Tassi & 2015 1st round pick to Blainville-Boisbriand for 2014 NHL Draft eligible defenseman Julien Bahl. Interesting trade for Sherbrooke that added Bahl to an already young defense corps, Bahl was Jeremy Roy’s defense partner back in 2011-2012 in Midget with the College Antoine Girouard.
