The Snapshot, Monday October 14th 2019

The New York Rangers announced the signing of Matthew Robertson to an entry-level contract. Robertson was drafted in the 2nd round (49th overall) this past June. He’s back for his 3rd season with the Edmonton Oil Kings in the WHL this season.

Philadelphia Flyers first-rounder in 2018, Jay O’Brien, is off to a good start with Penticton in the BCHL, with 20 points in 12 games so far. He is 3rd overall in the league scoring race. Penticton is also off to a 11-1 start.

It was a great week for the Moncton Wildcats, who added 2 key players to their lineup. Last year’s leading scorer Jeremy McKenna is back for his overage season after he was assigned to the ECHL from the Stockton Heat, where he signed over the summer. McKenna elected to play one last season in the QMJHL rather than playing in the ECHL.

Moncton also received the news that Axel Andersson is going to join their team, as the Boston Bruins decided it would be better for his development for him to get more ice time in the QMJHL. Andersson was selected 57th overall by the Bruins in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft and 30th overall by Moncton in the 2019 CHL Import Draft.

More out of Moncton: Zachary L’Heureux, the 3rd overall pick in the 2019 QMJHL Draft, is leading all rookies in the CHL with 14 points in 10 games.

Artemi Kniazev is back with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. He played his first game of the season this past Sunday against Rimouski. San Jose’s 2nd-round pick (48th overall) had been dealing with an injury since August 29th, when he was injured in a QMJHL pre-season game.

Speaking of the Saguenéens, they finally got some goal production from Rafaël Harvey-Pinard (Montreal’s 7th-round pick in 2019, formerly of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies) and Hendrix Lapierre (2020 eligible). Both players were scoreless through the first 8 games of the year. Chicoutimi is 6-2-1 this season.

The Everett Silvertips acquired Canadiens’ prospect Cole Fonstad. In return, Prince Albert receives forward Reece Vitelli and three selections in the Western Hockey League Bantam Draft. The selections are the second and fourth-round picks in the 2021 WHL Bantam Draft, as well as a conditional third-round selection in the 2022 WHL Bantam Draft.

The Moose Jaw Warriors have announced that Olivia Howe will be a new assistant coach for the team. Howe, from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, played for the Notre Dame AAA Hounds in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League from 2008-2012. She also played with Clarkson University in the NCAA from 2012 to 2016, notably winning the NCAA championship in 2014.

Brayden Tracey is back with Moose Jaw; he was assigned by the Anaheim Ducks on October 8th and has amassed 5 points in his first two games back. Tracey scored 36 goals and collected 81 points last year, winning WHL Rookie of the Year honours. Anaheim selected Tracey with the 29th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
