November 3, 2012, Halifax Mooseheads @ Drummondville Voltigeurs (QMJHL)
HFX #22 RC MacKinnon, Nathan (2013) – MacKinnon showed off his tremendous hands beating multiple defenders early on. He has very quick reaction time to the play around him and seems to see the game at a…
[sociallocker]superior level as he can figure out where he should go or what he should do almost instantaneously. He forced a fair amount of turnovers with his forecheck and played in all game situations. He worked very hard to get back defensively and contributing in his own zone. Nathan made an outstanding pass to set up the eventual winning goal midway through the second period. He took a beating after the whistle and didn’t really let it affect him. He was quite the antagonist hooking opponents sticks under his arm, not selling the hook but he would do things to try and tempt them to commit legitimate penalties .
HFX #27 LW Drouin, Jonathan (2013) – Drouin showed excellent hands and kept forcing a great deal of turnovers particularly in the offensive zone. He has outstanding playmaking ability and vision. He combines this with a quick and powerful shot and the knowledge when to use his passing and when to use his shooting. Drouin got pushed around a little but he eventually pushed back, standing up for himself and responding physically. Drouin scored an outstanding goal late in the second period. He made it 3-0 when he took a pass off the wall at full speed, didn’t break stride then wired the puck top shelf. Jonathan took an awkward hit in the third period injuring his leg and didn’t look the same after. In his final shifts there was a limp to his skating, however he kept getting put on the ice despite the fact his team was winning 5-1 late in the game and the pain that was very evident every time he put pressure on his one leg.
DRU #11 LW Ratelle, Joey (2014) – Joey got some power play time and showed off his skills and hands. He is a pretty smooth skater with great agility. He was willing to play a physical style of game despite not having a great deal of size.
DRU #15 LD Brouillard, Nikolas (2013) – Brouillard shows exceptional hands and has the ability to make highlight reel plays with the puck. Unfortunately this was combined with questionable decision making and hockey sense. At times Nikolas made some very nice plays, but too often he would make plays that didn’t make much sense.
DRU #39 G Guindon, Louis-Philip (2013) – Guindon showed good quickness, but kept losing his positioning and used far too much unnecessary movement. This cost him the first goal of the game. He flashed an impressive glove on a few occasions making a few great saves.
Scouts Notes: We were hoping for a bit of an even matched game, but the Halifax Mooseheads dominated from start to finish. Drummondville only registered 15 shots and only 3 in the second period. Halifax showed the ability to dominate pretty much every area of the game en route to a 5-1 victory. Zachary Fucale (2013) showed good quickness but this wasn’t much of a game to evaluate Fucale. He was legitimately tested maybe two or three times. [/sociallocker]
