Youngstown Phantoms vs. Green Bay Gamblers (USHL regular Season)
YNG # 8, C, Brown, Cam (2013) Brown displayed fantastic speed and hands to find lanes to rush the puck up on an end-to-end rush, get to the slot and put on an excellent shot from scoring…
[sociallocker]position. He showed his amazing speed again skating the puck up out of his own end on the penalty kill and had great agility with the puck to create some space from the opposition. He was able to get a cycle started in deep in the offensive zone and opened up nicely in the high slot to take a pass and put a good shot on net. There were times when he was trying to force passes through the opposition when spotting an open man next to the net.
YNG # 16, LW, Evancho, Zach (2013) Evancho put good pressure and physicality on the fore-check. He was going hard to the net looking for loose pucks and rebounds and got to the slot to open up, take a pass and put a good shot on off the rush. He was opening up well in the high slot as well to put one-timers on net.
YNG # 21, D, Mackey, Kyle (2013) Mackey displayed great strength and puck protection to be able to take a hit and still move the puck up out of his own zone. He didn’t have the hardest shot but got it through to the net from the point, but needs to watch the turnovers up along the boards in the neutral zone.
YNG # 27, C, Stork, Luke (2013) Stork did a great job of getting the puck in deep to start the cycle, and stuck to a fairly simple dump and chase style of game. He was challenging the puck carrier at the point, got in lanes and showed a willingness to block shots. He did however, have an odd-man rush opportunity and mishandled the puck, losing it and the opportunity all together.
GBG # 5, D, Oloffson, Gustav (2013) Oloffson made some pretty nice passes to start the rush on the breakout. He has a great shot from the point on the power play that found the net down low to get tipped and the team scored, then later got his shot through from the point again and it was tipped and the team scored. He used his stick well to keep the opposition to the perimeter and got his stick down in lanes to pick off passes on the penalty kill then clear it out of the zone. He has to watch the bad turnovers in dangerous areas in his own zone, and he also mishandled the puck a few times resulting in turnovers.
GBG # 16, C, Weiss, Mathew (2013) Weiss followed up the play nicely to pick up a rebound in the slot for a good shot opportunity. He got a good cycle started by moving the puck down low then going to the net with his stick down and made a nice pass to set-up a point shot for a goal. He did an excellent job of using his stick to force turnovers then move the puck up the ice on the rush to create a good opportunity and put good pressure on the fore-check as well. He got down to block a hard shot from the point but needs to watch some of his neutral zone turnovers.
GBG # 23, D, Gross, Jordan (2013) Gross was able to gain the offensive zone then get to the high slot to put a good shot on net. He was holding the offensive line extremely effectively to keep the attack alive, was distributing the puck well on the power play to find an open man down low and got a nice shot through from the point that the team batted in to score. He had a good clear on the penalty kill but has to watch some of the turnovers just throwing the puck up around the boards and also on long passes up the ice trying to start the breakout.
FINAL SCORE: 6-3 Green Bay Gamblers[/sociallocker]
