A towering defenseman who likes to play a physical game. Kanzig has received
limited ice time in Victoria this year and it has not helped out his development very much.
Kanzig is an average skater, and looks a little awkward when skating. He has not filled out his huge 6’5 frame yet, and does not look comfortable in his height. He’s able to keep opponents to the outside with his angling and big reach. He’s very strong along the boards and opponents have a difficult time getting away from him. A big area of improvement Kanzig must make is his ability to read the play. He gets caught in bad positioning, and tends to be too aggressive in the defensive zone. He needs to know where his teammates are and make better decisions. He can get too focused on the puck and forget about everything else.
Offensively, Kanzig has shown very limited potential. He has above average passes out of the zone, but every other part of his offensive skills need a lot of work. He has an average shot and needs to improve upon it a lot to be a threat along the blueline. He has limited vision, and will not be any kind of a defenseman that pushes the pace by any means.
