November 29, 2012, LaSalle Vipers @ Sarnia Legionnaires (GOJHL)
LAS #12 RC Jones, Blake (2014) – Jones showed a very good compete level in the corners and battled effectively in front of the net. He has an OK shot but struggled with accuracy at times. His skating is below average despite being 5’9″. Jones is a 14th Round pick of the Erie otters in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection.
[sociallocker]LAS #73 LD Brown, Graeme (2014) – Good skater with decent size. He has good mobility and overall skating in all areas. He is capable of skating the puck out of trouble and rushing it end to end. He also skates well backwards. On many occasions Brown was left out for long shifts but he showed the endurance to handle this effectively. He was usually the first out in all game situations he had good positioning on the penalty kill and negated rebound opportunities. Good puck mover who completes most of his passes but did have his share of turnovers. Most of them come when he’s trying to create scoring chances in the offensive zone. Brown is a 3rd Round pick of the Windsor Spitfires in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection.
SAR #9 RC Tyczynski, Hunter (2014) – Tyczinski has good size and looks very comfortable rushing the puck. He has been a pretty steady presence for the Legionnaires and plays a pretty simple but competitive game. Tyczynski is a 13th Round pick of the Barrie Colts in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection.
SAR #14 RD King, Jeff (2014) – King plays a very equal two way game and is used regularly in all game situations He made some good defensive plays to break up scoring chances and blocking shots. He moves the puck fairly confidently up ice. However considering his size his skating doesn’t quiet appear to be where it should be. King is a 10th round pick of the Sarnia Sting in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection.
SAR #26 RD Vandervaart, P.J. (2013) – Started out much in the same way he has the past few games opening very physical. He set the tone early after two big hits as his teammates appeared to become more physical as well. Usually only gets beat on quick transition turnover plays as he’s advancing up the ice but on the second play he dove to break up what would have been a 2 on 0 and completely negated it. He rarely gets beat one on one when he’s in position. His physicality intimidated LaSalle on a few occasions. He postured to throw a hip check at which time the LaSalle player just poked the puck ahead conceding it to Vandervaart. Later on his captain got hit with a questionable hit. The next time he was on the ice with the opposing player he went after him tripping him up then challenging him to a fight. The player in question despite playing physical all game wanted nothing to do with P.J. and couldn’t get away from him and back to his bench fast enough. Unfortunately he took a minor penalty on the play and it resulted in a power play goal against his team.
Scouts Notes: A very entertaining game tonight between two teams battling for 6th place in the conference. Both teams went back and forth and the momentum shifted many times. A very physical game and one where the goal difference was never more than one goal until the final five minutes of the game when LaSalle scored to put the game away with a 4-2 victory.[/sociallocker]
