Now that the dust has settled from this year’s NHL draft, let’s take a look at some of the highlights and record-setting moments from the first round that you may have missed.
1 – The first time the Columbus Blue Jackets have selected a Swedish player in the 1st Round (Wennberg, 14th)
2 – The first time the Florida Panthers chose #2 overall inthe NHL draft (Barkov)
3 – The number of times the New York Islanders have selected a Brandon Wheat Kings defenceman in the 1stround (2013-Pulock, 1995-Redden, 1988-Cheveldayoff)
4 – Nathan MacKinnon is the 4th-youngest 1st overall pick in NHL history
5 – The 5th time in NHL history that two players from the same team are selected in the Top 3
6 – Six players chosen in the 1st round participated in the 2013 Memorial Cup (MacKinnon, Drouin, Jones, Horvat, Domi, Zadorov)
6 – Members of Canada’s U-18 Hockey Team that won a gold medal in April 2013 (Morin, Morrissey, Theodore, Dickinson, Gauthier, Klimchuk)
7 – The 7th consecutive year a CHL player is selected 1stoverall
8 – The number of picks from the WHL, the most since 2008

11 – The 11th time in team history that the Philadelphia Flyers have selected a defenceman in the opening round
12 – Draft position for Max Domi (Phoenix). It was 15 spots higher than his dad, Tie, selected 27th overall by Toronto in 1988 13 – At #13, Morrissey is the highest drafted Prince AlbertRaider since Scott Hartnell went 6th overall in 2000
22 – Record number of CHL players selected in the first round (previous high was 21 in 2011 & 1998) 28 – The number of times a Portland Winterhawks (WHL) player has been selected in the first round (Jones) 31 – Record number of QMJHL players chosen in a 7-round draft
50 – Anthony Mantha (Detroit) was the only 50-goal scorer among the first round picks
