San Jose Jr. Sharks vs. Okanagan Hockey Sept 15, 2012

SJ#4 G, Dickson, Sean Put on the best goaltending performance of the tournament so far. Possesses a very good glove hand, and quite impressed with how well tracked pucks despite the heavy traffic in front of him. Very good lateral movement, and made quite a few saves on a backdoor play. Makes himself big in all situations and fights to cover up any

[sociallocker]rebounds. Not a very good puck handler at all. Also gave up quite a few rebounds, albeit right in front of his body, but forwards with good hands can tuck those in. Needs to hold onto shots that come by his chest.

OHA#1 G, Anagnostopoulos, Aris Solid goaltender who did not have to be spectacular today, just good to keep his team in it at the beginning of the game. Recovers well from his knees and is quick to his feet. Faced a lot of shots in tight and did well to hold his ground. A good skater, and handled the puck pretty well on this day. Tracks the puck until it gets to his body, and is quick to pounce on any rebounds.

OHA#11 C, Malenstyn, Beck A big forward with good tools to his game. Good skater for his size, and displayed some above average stickhandling skills. Could add some more speed and aggressiveness to his game. Drew a penalty by going hard to the net and used his body to protect the puck. Played a good game in his own end and read the play pretty well. Backchecked hard a few times to break up odd man rushes. Scored a goal by going to the net and jamming home a rebound, then another one by tipping a knee high shot from the point. Dished out a couple of nice open ice hits.

OHA#17 LW, Koch, Davis Quick forward who showed off good vision and shot in this game. Scored by attacking the net from the wall and going short side top corner while getting hooked. Left handed shot coming from the left hand side. Likes to drive through the middle of the ice and try to split the defense. Took a couple of goaltender interference penalties while driving to the net. Needs to be more aware of where he is. Threw his weight around as much as he could. Not afraid to go into the corners and try to win pucks away from much bigger opponents today. Has a tendency to leave the defensive zone too early. Not afraid to attack the point and block shots.

SCOUT’S NOTES: It was a defensive battle for the first half of the game, then Okanagan started to click offensively, thanks to the duo of Beck Malenstyn and Davis Koch. Showed off good chemistry, and have been line mates for years according to Malenstyn’s grandfather. The game was only close because of Sean Dickson’s performance in net. Held the fort for San Jose as long as he could. Aris Anagnostopoulos had to be sharp in the early parts of this game. Okanagan had a few defensive break downs and Ananostopoulos bailed them out on a couple of breakaways. San Jose does not have very skills players, just solid 2 way skaters who competes hard and tries to score by going to the net and jamming home rebounds.
