Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds at Sarnia Sting (OHL) September 28, 2012

September 28, 2012, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds @ Sarnia Sting (OHL)

SSM #3 RD Ganly, Tyler (2013) – The rookie Ganly had his moments in 1 on 1 situation matching up well showing great strength. He won several battles along the board and is very strong overall.

He showed this by standing up for a teammate after they got injured. His progression since minor midget has been very strong.

SSM #11 LW Dempsey, Mitchell (2013) – Mitchell is a good skater for his size, and showed some good moves 1 on 1. He protects the puck well when driving to the net and got multiple scoring chances out of it.

SSM #19 LC McCann, Jared (2014) – McCann went hard to the net, and appears to be still adjusting to the speed of things as many rookies do. He had some tough luck in this game getting tripped on a good scoring chance, and his stick breaking after acquiring ideal scoring position.

SSM #25 LD Nurse, Darnell (2013) – Nurse made good passes up ice and flips the puck out if there is no option. He fired the puck down the ice a little too early without much reason behind it at times. However on the penalty kill this was one of his strong points as he was usually the one clearing the zone. He moves the puck well in the offensive zone and appears to have simplified his offensive game a little. He was very reliable in 1 on 1 situations.

SSM #28 RW Tolchinsky, Sergey (2013) – He has a laser shot but really didn’t show much in the first. As the second and third periods came he started to show more flashes of his skill and elusiveness but he is very timid around physical contact at this point.

SAR #2 RD Chapman, Joshua (2013) – Usually made the good defensive play when he was in positon, but he really struggled with the puck.

SAR #21 LC Nikandrov, Daniel (2013) – Nikandrov’s work ethic is really showing through in this game. He worked in all three zones showing great determination. He was good on the penalty kill particularly forcing turnovers.

SAR #71 RW Goldobin, Nikolay (2014) – Goldobin was much more patient and composed with the puck. He is very elusive starting to show off his hands. This made it possible for him to create offense. He has a very good shot. Goldobin needs to battle more in the neutral zone for pucks and along the wall. Usually he’s caught just standing there observing the play.

SAR #77 RD DeAngelo, Anthony (2014) – DeAngelo pinched in from the point on the power play giving Sarnia the lead in the second period. He battled all night long with much bigger opponents and he did fairly well in these situations.

SAR #88 LW Addesi, Jordan (2014) – Extremely hard worker and finished his checks whenever the opportunity arised. He created a few good scoring chances. Addesi appears fully recovered from his shoulder injury in minor midget. In our limited viewings we really liked what we saw in him. He is looking like an excellent fourth round selection.

Scouts Notes: This was a very interesting game. Sault Ste. Marie came out extremely physical to the point they appeared to have the Sting warn down and some players conceding battles. Unfortunately instead of taking advantage of this they became very undisciplined and gave Sarnia many opportunties to take over the game. The Sting in fact took a 2-1 lead into the third period. However after both Andrew Fritsch (Phoenix) and Nick Cousins (Philadelphia) scored within 30 seconds of each other the 2-1 Sarnia leads became a 3-2 lead for the Greyhounds. The SOO held on to take the one goal lead.
