SSF #8 LD Crête-Belzile, Antoine (2017): A strong performance from Crête-Belzile tonight, including strong first passes out of his zone and smart hockey at both ends of the ice. He played on his team’s first PP and PK units and played on both sides during this game, showing some versatility. He showed good poise with the puck and moved it extremely well to his forwards to attack the offensive zone, using good, quick decisions with the puck on his stick. On the power play he was paired with team captain Felix Boivin and played more the role of a playmaker whereas Boivin was the shooter. He’s also a capable puck rusher, keeping his head up and taking advantage of open space on the ice to attack.
SSF #32 G Baribeau, Dereck (2017): Although he gave up four goals today, Baribeau was good enough to help his team get the win. Made some key saves at key times in the game, including one at the end of the first on Arnaud Durandeau on a breakaway. Loved how he challenged Durandeau on that sequence and gave him nothing to shoot at. Gave up three goals in a span of just over a minute halfway the 3rd period, but stayed focused and was able to keep the one-goal lead for his team’s win.
SSF #5 F Lemay-Champagne, William (2017): Entered the zone nicely and made a good feed to Felix Boivin for his team’s 3rd goal late in the 2nd period. Lemay-Champagne was quiet outside of that play during the game; in the neutral zone I thought he could move pucks more quickly. It would also help him if he could keep his feet moving all the time. He lacks that quickness that would allow him to beat defenders wide or on races for the puck. He’s not the biggest player but did a good job down low, protecting the puck behind the Lac St-Louis net.
LSL #9 F Veleno, Joseph (2018): Veleno was quiet in the first half of the game, where he couldn’t get much going offensively. He played at both LW and center in this game. He, like his team, started playing much better midway through the 3rd period once they were down 5-1 in the game and scored three quick goals in a comeback attempt. He had his team’s 4th goal of the game after a superb effort on the backcheck in his own end, stealing the puck and using his speed to get rid of two SSF players and then scoring a goal later on the sequence after a nice give-and-go with Adam Capannelli. He was very dangerous in the offensive zone after that goal, holding onto the puck longer and taking over the game at times with his speed and creativity.
LSL #5 LD Krief, Alexander (2017): Krief played on LW today as he did for most of the playoffs, but doesn’t seem comfortable on the forecheck trying to dish out hits. Got about 2-3 shifts per period from what I saw, he made a nice play using his long stick behind the opposing net, but that’s about it for him today.
LSL #8 LD Orr, James (2017): Played on the right side most of the game, did a good job being aggressive versus the puck carrier. Played a safe game in his own end, was not really noticeable with the puck during the game.
LSL #20 LW Capannelli, Adam (2017): Showed good puck control in his rushes, loves to have the puck on his stick but could use his teammates better. Has a low center of gravity and is tough to knock down. Did a fine job in his zone, came back deep in his zone to help his defensemen out. Made a nice play with Joseph Veleno on the Lions 4th goal, giving him the puck back in front of the net after his great rush.
LSL #21 RW Durandeau, Arnaud (2017): Good showing from Durnadeau on the power play, where he makes good use of open space. Knows how to find open ice and gets himself into scoring position, has a great wrist shot with a quick release. Had a good chance after a turnover but was stopped by SSF goaltender Baribeau after trying to deke him on a breakaway. Could be more committed to his defensive game, as he stopped moving his feet in the defensive zone and turned the puck over today in his zone.
