The World Under-17 Hockey Challenge got underway this past Saturday in Medicine Hat and Swift Current. To follow the event. LINK

Hockey Canada announced the captain and assistant-captains of each of their three teams at the U-17s. For Team Black, Shane Wright of Kingston will wear the C, and Olivier Boutin (Gatineau) and Sean Tschigeri (Calgary) will assist him. For Team Red, Evan Nause (Sioux Falls) will wear the C, Jacob Holmes (Soo) and Conner Roulette (Seattle) are the assistants. For Team White, Justin Robidas (Val-d’Or) will wear the C and will be assisted by Mason McTavish (Peterborough) and Cole Sillinger (Medicine Hat).

The CIBC Canada-Russia series is starting this week, with games in Saint John and Moncton on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Russia’s roster was announced this past Friday.

Ryan Francis (Cape Breton) and Samuel Houde (Chicoutimi) have been added to Team QMJHL for the CIBC Canada-Russia Series. They will take Mathias Laferrière and Hendrix Lapierre’s spots, as they are unable to play due to injury.

Cedric Paré was named the QMJHL Player of the Month for October; the Rimouski forward had 36 points in 13 games and is currently leading the league in scoring, 1 point ahead of his linemate Alexis Lafrenière. In the OHL, Arthur Kaliyev of the Hamilton Bulldogs received that same honour, with 25 points in 12 games. Over in the WHL, Connor Zary of the Kamloops Blazers was named Player of the Month. The 2020 draft eligible prospect had 21 points in 14 games.
