Toronto Marlboros Tournament Final: Toronto Marlies vs Kitchener Rangers

2015 International Holiday Classic Tournament

Toronto Marlies 3 vs Kitchener Jr Rangers 0

Game Recap:

The familiar surroundings of Etobicoke Ice Sports Rink 4 may have helped the Marlies as Matthew Strome capitalized early on a Kitchener turnover deep in their own zone to make it 1-0. The Marlies made it 2-0 before the end of the period when Ben Jones found Andrew Kyrinis alone in the slot where he made no mistake. Much of the first period saw the Marlies dictating the pace of the game as they controlled all three zones. The Rangers seemed to find their legs in the second, but ultimately the Marlies were just too much on this day. The Marlies made it 3-0 as C.J. Clarke flew past the Ranger defence on a soft dump in and his quick shot on net rebounded back to a trailing Jones who smartly snapped it past Ranger goalie Daniel Chenard.

Others with strong games were Jaden Peca, Lucas Patton, and the Marlie defence core highlighted by the work of Brendan Smith and Matthew Wilkins who both did an admirable job nullifying Kitchener’s offensive duo of Jason Willms and Owen Lane. Kitchener goaltender Chenard made a number of impressive saves, Andrew McIntyre was strong on the fore check all game and Tyler Dam had a good game on the Ranger blue line.

Congratulations to Marlie forward Ben Jones who was named the tournament MVP.
