Vancouver Giants vs. Kamloops Blazers (WHL Regular Season)

VAN#1 G, Lee, Payton(2014) Definitely had a game to forget tonight. Gave up a goal 10 seconds into the game after a bad defensive break down, and just could not really

recover from it mentally. He looked slow to go down on his butterfly, and did not have the same compete level to fight for pucks in traffic as he usually does. Let in a few soft goals tonight, and got pulled in the 2nd period. Looks like his confidence level is quite low at this point.[sociallocker]

VAN#27 RW, Houck, Jackson(2013) Houck had an up and down game tonight. Created very little offensively, but made his presence known at times with his physical play on the forecheck. Looked good on the penalty kill tonight with his stick positioning and knowing when to apply pressure on an opponent and when to hold his position. Houck was not much of a factor on the power play with his net front presence, mostly because his teammates could not get anything to the net.

KAM#12 RW, Souto, Chase(2013) Quick skating forward had a good offensive game tonight. He was able to find his way around the ice well and create chances in the slot. Showed off above average hands, nothing fancy but looked very comfortable with the puck and his ability to control the puck in speed and in traffic. He needs to release the puck a lot quicker when he has an open lane to the net. He had a couple of good scoring chances, but took too long to shoot, which got blocked or deflected. Defensively, Souto was good enough to cover his point and not be a defensive liability. Did not get any PK time though.

KAM#21 LW, Ully, Cole(2013) Good two way forward who had a very good game in the offensive zone. Scored two goals by showing off his quick release. Did not hesitate to shoot when he had opportunities, and just got pucks on net. First goal was a bit of a weak one right off the wall, but the second one was a good one in the slot. Ully was very involved out on the ice tonight in all zones. He was in good position without the puck, and constantly moved his feet. Still needs to work on his play along the wall.

KAM#34 RW, Lipon, JC(2013) Skilled forward who played on the edge tonight. In the first period, he almost took a terrible, undisciplined penalty as he was going for a line change, he went to Vancouver’s bench and just pushed an opponent into an opened door for no apparent reason. Thankfully for him, the officials missed it. In the near end of the second period, he took a really bad hit from behind, and laid on the ice for 5 seconds, then got up angrily and picked a random opponent and just threw massive punches at him, which costed him 17 PIMs. Then in the late third period, he took a terrible kneeing penalty and got into another fight to end the game. He spent a good portion of the game sitting in the penalty box tonight. When he was on the ice, he showed off a great shot. Had a nice velocity to his shot, but just missed the target a couple of times. He created a goal at the start of the game with his good forecheck. A good skater with his speed and ability to change directions quickly. Was out on the ice in all situations. Defensively, battles hard along the boards, but needs to work on his shot blocking.

SCOUT’S NOTES: Vancouver gave up a goal 10 seconds into the game, and it was basically over from that point. Did not like the undisciplined play of JC Lipon tonight. He had a short fuse, and luckily for his team they were able to win without him on the ice on this day. Vancouver came out with a poor effort and did not show much of a push. Almost all of their shots were from the outside, and nothing dangerous. Liked Cole Ully’s game tonight. Kept his game simple and just got pucks on net. Tim Bozon had a very inconsistent game. Made one excellent play on a 2 on 1 for a great assist, but other than that really struggled at both ends of the ice tonight for Kamloops.

FINAL SCORE: 6-0 Kamloops[/sociallocker]
