Waterloo Wolves at Lambton Jr. Sting September 23, 2012

Alliance Minor Midget Regular Season

WAT #3 D Pederson, Scott – Made good decisions around his decision making on the point whether to pass or shoot. He has a good hard shot that usually makes it through to the net and he usually completes his passes. He has great size and we’d like to see him use it a little more.

WAT #10 F Mantz, Gary – Gary was one of the most impressive players in this game. He had the odd bad shift, but he was consistent winning battles in the corner and goes very hard on the fore check. This includes while on the penalty kill. He protects the puck well. He was a little hit or miss in 1 on 1 match-up’s but on one goal he made a great play and finished under pressure from the defense. Pretty good hands. He seems to like to get into the rough stuff, but really crossed the line taking an unnecessary and undisciplined penalty with eight minutes remaining leading by one goal.

WAT #14 D Bissonnette, Nicholas – Best defenseman on either side today. He moves the puck very well on the power play. He got the puck up the ice with good solid passes. However on occasion he threw it away. Showed the ability to make end to end rushes. On one of these he fired a weak wrister, but it counted for a goal. Made the right decision most of the time when looking at passing options.

WAT #27 F Playfair, Ben – Playfair was tenacious on the penalty kill constiantly applying pressure. He also won defensive battles while killing penalties and was effective clearing the zone. He won battles more than half the time.

LAM #17 D Osborne, Colton – Osborne was consistently physical throughout this game. While we really like his physicality, we don’t like how he constantly compromises his positioning to do so. A few 2 on 1’s developed for Waterloo out of these situations. Osborne took two interference penalties in the third period.

LAM #52 D McCormack, Sam – Had a little trouble moving the puck throughout the game. His passing ability is very hit or miss, but he has a rocket shot which he used to score a goal. He got taken out behind the play late in the game. He left the game and did not return, although there were only a few minutes remaining.

LAM #91 F Corrigan, Brett – Corrigan moves the puck very effectively on the power play. He is fairly consistent in his decision making. He constantly intercepted/took the puck from opponents and took them in for scoring chances. Fired a very nice wrist shot to tie the game at the midway point. He looked good controlling the puck at top speed while it’s passed into his feet, kicking it up to his stick without losing a stride.

Scouts Notes: Down 2-0 early and being dominated, Lambton Jr. Sting could have mailed it in. But they stuck with it, played hard and came back taking a 3-2 lead with 5 minutes remaining in the 2nd period. The lead was short lived, but their determination made this a great game. Klayton Hoelscher scored a back breaking short handed goal with 39 seconds left in the 2nd period. This turned out to be the winner as Waterloo took the game 5-3. Tyler Randerson for Waterloo takes the direct route to the puck. He protects it well particularly in the offensive zone. A few players for Lambton had notable performances. Brenden Trottier was really in the background but he jumps out at you because you can see his good vision and he moved the puck very well. Aiden Chapdelaine uses his size well to win battles and fights for position out front of the opposing net.
