Anaheim Jr. Kings vs. North Shore Winter Club Sept 16, 2012

ANA#11 D, Russell, Rourke Puck moving defenseman had some very good and bad moments in the game. When his team is on the offense, Russell shines and is a threat with the puck. He makes very good passes in any situations, and is able to skate with it effectively. He did not show the stickhandling abilities to go through the whole team, but used his speed and ability to change directions to rush the puck up the ice. In the defensive zone is where Russell went on a bit of an adventure. He was very good along the boards and had no problem tying up opponents, but he had moments where he he would lose the puck right in the slot and give the team a mini breakaway, or chase too much and leave his area down low wide open for an opponent to go to the net. Must tidy up…

the rough edges around his game to be a very good prospect down the road.[sociallocker]

ANA#13 F, Sitzman, Jack Had a very good game by utilizing his speed today. Was one of the better forwards for Anaheim on this day. At his best when he attacks opponents with speed. Average hands, and is able to get the better of weaker defensemen when he is going full speed. Was able to score today by rushing down the wing, then cutting to the middle and quickly taking a wrist shot. Not bad in his own end. Not afraid to take the body. Needs to improve on reading the play and knowing what areas he needs to cover to prevent any breakdowns in coverage.

NSWC#9 F, Benjafield, Quinn Lanky forward who played a good 2 way game today. Drew a penalty shot with his speed and was able to score on the opportunity. Showed some nice hands and tucked it in 5-hole. A good skater and possesses above average hands in traffic. Just a little slow to read the play and not able to go to the right areas all the time in both ends. Uses his body well and finished his hits whenever he could. Could improve on his speed and be more aggressive in the way he goes to the net.

NSWC#16 F, Bellerive, Jordy Had a very good game in both ends of the ice. First year bantam player and looks like he is on his way to adjust to the speed and physicality . Not overly fast or physical, but was able to be effective in the offensive zone. Took a penalty shot for his team, but missed the net on his wrist shot. Very good vision with the puck, and made some nice passes all game long. Was all over the puck today. Drove the net hard a couple of times and was able to create some chances. Needs to be able to do things quicker and think the game at a faster pace. Does not have the luxury of time to survey the ice and make the best decision possible like he did at the pee wee level. Needs to get stronger too.

NSWC#30 G, Demers, Cole Had a great game for North Shore today. When they were on their heels in the early parts of the game, he stepped up and made some huge saves. Looked like he was very focused, and directed rebounds to the corners quite well. Good lateral mobility, and quick to his feet. Did not get phased with pucks around his feet. Good butterfly stance. Quick reaction times, and had to make a few acrobatic saves off of tips in the slot.

SCOUT’S NOTES: Nice way to end the tournament for Anaheim Jr. Ducks. They got better collectively as the tournament went on. Rourke Russell could be a good player in the future if he can learn to read the play better in his own zone. Very good game with the puck today. Quinn Benjafield led the team today and made a lot of good plays. Ryan Pouliot, defenseman for North Shore, struggled today like he did for most of the tournament. Came in with some hype to his game. Too small, and did not read the play well at all. Took too long to make decisions with and without the puck. Exciting game right to the end. North Shore scored with 30 seconds left to break the tie.
