POE#12 RC, McDonald, Kody Big physical forward who was by far the best player of the game. Impressive combination of size, speed, physicality and hands. Scored from the top of the circle on a lethal wrist shot. Good velocity and aim on it. Loved to throw his weight around and take advantage of his body when he could. Committed to playing
[sociallocker] both ends of the ice. Opponents had a tough time keeping him to the outside when he was flying down the wing. He would simply lower his shoulders and cut to the middle time and time again.
POE#17 W, Jost, Tyler An explosive winger who was dangerous with the puck all game long. A very good skater who can deke through opponents in speed, Jost was able to push opposing defensemen back and give his team a lot of space on the rush. He is very strong on his skates despite his size, and opponents had a hard time handling him around the boards. He had a few good chances in tight, but just failed to capitalize on them. Needs to get bigger and continue to work on his ability to play with speed to be successful at the higher levels.
DAL#67 LC, Crone, Hank A dynamic, creative forward who had the best hands in the game by far. Very Ovechkin-esque with his ability to go around defenders with his dekes on the rush and create a breakaway situation for himself. For a smaller player, the velocity on his wrist shot was very impressive. A good skater who can twist and turn easily, but Crone could be faster in terms of overall speed to be more effective. Tried to do too much on many occasions and had a few giveaways as a result. Also looked to have a bit of an attitude. Not very disciplined as he would retaliate anytime he would get hit along the boards, and took an unnecessary roughing penalty to put his team a man down.
DAL#8 D, Gildon, Max A puck moving defenseman who was Dallas’ best defender in this game. Impressive skater and was the only player who could comfortable keep up with POE’s Kody McDonald whenever he was flying down the wing. Very good job to keep opponents to the outside and keep his stick in the shooting or passing lanes. Made great outlet passes all game long and kept POE’s bench on their toes during line changes. He is very patient with the puck and has the ability to skate and handle the puck until there is a hole in the forecheck to pass it up. Protects the puck well with his body on the rush or along the boards. Needs to work on his physical play to add another dimension to his defensive game.
DAL#21 F, Porter, Jordan Physical forward who created some scoring opportunities with his speed and aggressiveness. Showed off some nice hands at times, but did not have the abilities or instincts to be the offensive catalyst for his line. Was at his best when he moved his feet and drove to the net and create some havoc. Good hitter, but could be more patient and try to contain oppositions in the defensive zone more often. Got caught running around a little bit.
SCOUT’S NOTES: A good start to the tournament with a good game. Very impressed with Kody McDonald and his game today. Looked like the complete package on this day. Never seen a 14 year old who can control the puck as well as Hank Crone. Had the puck on a string for most of the game. Noah Turanski, a big defenseman for Pursuit of Excellence was at least 6’ tall. Physical, but not very good with the puck or against speed. Azan Dorsett is the lone girl in this tournament, and showed off some impressive skating abilities. One of the best skaters in this game for sure. Used her feet to get away from trouble. Not a back puck mover either. Dallas controlled the early parts of this game, but Pursuit of Excellence, led by Kody McDonald took over this game and dominated the second half.Tyson Jost
